Our S.T.E.A.M. Lab
An additional outdoor learning space on our campus, our S.T.E.A.M. Lab is the portico area and doubles as our preschool's main entrance. This space was transformed to allow classes to build, paint, experiment, and explore in an outdoor setting. The space creates an environment that allows additional creativity in building and working with their classmates to achieve a singular goal.
Oversized outdoor blocks find their home in our S.T.E.A.M. Lab. Combined with collected items such as large cardboard tubes or gutters, children can problem solve by building ramps and roads in this larger exploration space.
Research shows that vertical mark making is a useful tool in promoting eye hand coordination, bilateral stability and encouraging focus and attention. We love the making opportunities provided in the S.T.E.A.M. lab. Students can create at our oversized chalk board or on our plexiglass wall mounted easels. The chalk board is the perfect backdrop for our mini corner stage; a wonderful setting for story retellings and puppet shows.
There are always weeks where the rain seems to never end, and that is when the S.T.E.A.M. Lab is a lifesaver! Students can still get fresh air and a chance to explore when the rainy days won't go away!
